How to read bookmaker bonus terms

Measure wagering, qualifying odds, time limits and withdrawal caps before opting in.

Ignore the headline at first

The advertised amount is not the economic value of a bonus. Find the qualifying deposit, wagering multiplier, expiry, minimum odds, maximum stake and withdrawal cap. Check whether wagering applies to the bonus only or deposit plus bonus—a major difference.

Translate wagering into money

A €50 bonus with 10× bonus wagering requires €500 of qualifying stakes. If the rule is 10× deposit plus bonus after a €50 deposit, it requires €1,000. Expected losses depend on margin, market choice and restrictions, so a large headline can still have little practical value.

Find the rules that invalidate play

Common restrictions include excluded payment methods, games that contribute less than 100%, prohibited betting patterns, maximum qualifying stakes and country exclusions. Read the general terms and promotion page. Save both before opting in, since the version in force can matter in a dispute.

Decide without urgency

A countdown should not replace calculation. Compare the offer with betting without a bonus and do not deposit more than your planned entertainment budget. If a term is ambiguous, ask support in writing. Skip any offer whose conditions you cannot explain in one or two sentences.

Practical checklist

  • Use the official regulator or source, not a copied badge.
  • Save the relevant terms and date before depositing.
  • Check the exact domain, legal entity and country rules.
  • Set money and time limits before you start.
