To identify bookmakers licensed in Romania, check the legal operator, its permission for remote gambling, the exact domain and current authorisation. A familiar brand or an ONJN logo on its own is not a complete check.
This is a verification guide, not a complete certified list of Romanian bookmakers. We could read ONJN’s public explanation of licence classes, but could not retrieve the main ONJN site to independently confirm a current online-operator shortlist during this update.
Class I and Class II mean different things
ONJN’s official class selector describes Class I as covering operators that offer gambling directly to consumers, including traditional and remote activity. Class II concerns businesses providing associated services, such as technical support or payment processing. A supplier’s Class II permission should not be presented as a bookmaker’s consumer-facing authorisation.
A current operator disclosure to check: Superbet
Superbet’s published betting rules identify Superbet Entertainment Limited and state licence L1203785W001253, issued under ONJN decision 277 of 31 March 2025. Its Romanian homepage repeats that number. These are operator disclosures; we have not independently confirmed their current authorisation against ONJN’s remote-operator records in this update.
This example illustrates why the company and number matter more than the trading name. When an old review cites a different entity or licence, compare the underlying documents and dates. Do not silently treat two licence numbers as interchangeable or carry an expired validity period into a new recommendation.
Do not confuse the gaming-equipment register with a website list
The accessible Class I equipment register contains records such as gaming machines with serial numbers and physical addresses. A record there can concern land-based activity. It does not, by itself, prove that a particular betting website has permission for remote gambling.
Start from ONJN and seek its current remote-gambling operator information and decisions. If the relevant service is unavailable, leave the result marked unverified and check again later. A failed lookup is not evidence of approval or of revocation.
What to record before comparing Romanian bookmakers
- Brand and domain: write down the exact website you intend to use.
- Contracting company: match the name in the account terms to the official record.
- Scope: confirm the permission relates to remote gambling and the relevant product.
- Current status: check validity, current authorisation and later suspension or revocation decisions.
- Account conditions: inspect verification, withdrawal fees, limits, complaints and exclusion procedures separately.
A licence is an entry condition for our comparisons, not a score for odds or customer support. To compare prices, select the same event and market at the same time. To compare withdrawals, distinguish the operator’s approval stage from bank settlement. Record whether a statement is a published promise or a measured result.
Romanian licensing FAQs
Does a .ro domain prove ONJN approval?
No. A domain ending is a useful identifier, not the underlying licensing record.
Is a Class II licence sufficient for a betting site?
ONJN describes Class II as associated services. Check the consumer-facing operator’s own permission rather than relying on its supplier’s licence.
Where can I learn the checking process?
Read our bookmaker licence checklist and Romania country overview. If you have a current official record that resolves a listed uncertainty, send it through our corrections page.
